Field trip to City Hall and
Schaefer funeral announcements
MCOM 407 students Chris Paul, Lauren Slavin and Cari Crabtree interviewing the Ryan O’Doherty, the spokesman for Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
Not pictured is Mike Huber, who had headed to the transportation office for a one-on-one interview.
They attended the Board of Estimates meeting Wednesday morning with the hopes of interviewing Ryan O’Doherty, director of the Mayor’s Office of Communications and Policy. After they finished their interviews, I asked him for his advice to j-students:
“Focus on accuracy. Focus on getting it right,” O’Doherty told them. “Don’t set the narrative in stone until you’ve finished your reporting.”
The meeting was held in Room 215 of City Hall, and it was a little like stepping into Dumbledore’s office. Mayors past watched us as we listened to the proceedings.
Of those portraits, Mayor/Governor/Comptroller William Donald Schaefer’s stood out. Notice he’s not pictured in a City Hall office. There are rowhomes on the right and a view of the Baltimore skyline in the background. He is crowned by a clearing sky.
Schaefer will lie in state at the Maryland State House in Annapolis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25. He will lie in state at Baltimore City Hall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The City Hall Rotunda will be open for public viewing during those times. Funeral services will take place at Old St. Paul’s Church in Baltimore at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27.
Another field trip anyone?
